What happens during a dental health review?

At Hermitage Dental Practice, we know how important it is to keep your oral health in check. A dental health review isn’t just about looking at your teeth; it’s a comprehensive examination that ensures your smile stays as healthy as possible.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Medical update: Every six months, we’ll ask you to update your medical history. It might not seem relevant, but many health conditions and medications can affect your oral health. This information helps us tailor your care and provide a truly bespoke service.

  • Jaw examination: We’ll check for any discomfort, clicking, or issues with your jaw joint that could be causing problems.

  • Oral cancer screening: This is a vital part of your review. We’ll check your neck, tongue, cheeks, and lips for any unusual lumps or changes that might need further attention. If you’ve noticed anything concerning, we’re here to help—don’t hesitate to ask.

  • Teeth check: Only then do we move on to your teeth! We’ll look for signs of decay, wear, or damage to any fillings, crowns, or other dental work. For children, we’ll also monitor their dental development and check if orthodontic treatment is needed.

  • X-ray review: If necessary, we’ll take or review dental X-rays to look at areas we can’t see with the naked eye, such as between teeth or underneath fillings.

  • Gum health check: Healthy gums are just as important as healthy teeth. We’ll look for any signs of gum disease and provide advice to improve your brushing or flossing routine.

  • Digital scanning: Our advanced intraoral scanners create a 3D image of your teeth, helping us monitor any changes over time and explain any concerns we spot. It’s a fantastic tool for helping you see what we see!

Regular dental health reviews are key to preventing problems before they start, keeping your smile bright and healthy for years to come.
